Tainted Love by Soft Cell was released in 1981. The band considered it to be their last shot at a hit single. Guess what? It became that and more. It was #1 in seventeen countries and it peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1982. Even though it didn't hit #1 in the U.S., it did set a set a then-Guinness World Record for the longest consecutive stay on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts (43 weeks).
