Chris Isaak - Wicked Game

Chris Isaak has released a number of singles, but only one has been a hit. It was his 1990 top ten hit Wicked Game. This is a really good song, but I think it's popularity was driven primarily by this video, which was played on MTV and VH1 relentlessly. It features Chris and a topless Helena Christensen rolling around on the beach. The video won the MTV Video Music Awards for Best Male Video, Best Cinematography and Best Video from a Film. Enjoy!

Patrick Swayze - She's Like The Wind

Patrick Swayze was on top of the world back in 1987. His movie Dirty Dancing was a huge surprise hit as it was originally scheduled to be released in theaters for only one weekend and then go straight to video, but as we know, it ended up making Patrick and Jennifer Grey famous.

What's interesting about this song is the fact that he recorded it for the Dirty Dancing soundtrack before the movie became a hit. Normally, actors jump into the musical arena after they've had success on the big screen in order to capitalize on their success, i.e. Bruce Willis, Don Johnson, etc. The song went to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, #1 on the Adult Contemporary charts, and was a hit around the world. Enjoy!

Buster Poindexter - Hot, Hot, Hot

Hot, Hot, Hot was a huge hit on both radio and video. MTV played the video relentlessly back in the late 80's. For it's singer, Buster Poindexter (David Johansen of the New York Dolls) this song has become in his words, "the bane of my existence" because it's played at so many weddings and karaoke events. Either way, it's one of the most popular one hit wonders ever. Enjoy!

Because I Got High was a comical rap song by rapper Afroman. It's a funny video featuring Jay and Silent Bob showing how smoking weed has screwed up his life. It was his only hit, but it was a big one for him. It peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 2001, and it was a #1 hit in the UK. Enjoy!

Kevin Federline - Lose Control

Truthfully, Federline's Lose Control doesn't belong on this site because it was actually never a "hit" on any singles chart, and Kevin Federline, aka K-Fed, aka Mr. Ex-Britney Spears, has only released one album, and it only received press b/c of the aforementioned Britney Spears.

However, Yahoo Music has a poll today asking their viewers to vote for the biggest "turkey" video in honor of Thanksgiving. So far, K-Fed is running away with it. The other videos to choose from are Milli Vanilli's Girl You Know It's True, Los Del Rio's Macarena, Right Said Fred's I'm Too Sexy and Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby. Click here to cast your vote... Soft Cell - Tainted Love

Tainted Love by Soft Cell was released in 1981. The band considered it to be their last shot at a hit single. Guess what? It became that and more. It was #1 in seventeen countries and it peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1982. Even though it didn't hit #1 in the U.S., it did set a set a then-Guinness World Record for the longest consecutive stay on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts (43 weeks). That's one heck of a one-hit wonder! Enjoy.

Meredith Brooks - Bitch

Meredith Brooks' is a perfect example of a "One-Hit Wonder". Her first single, Bitch, on her first album, Blurring The Edges, was a huge hit, and she hasn't had another one since. Bitch went to #1 on the U.S. Top 40 Mainstream charts and #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. She was 39 years old when this song was released... Better late than never, huh? This is a really good song though. Enjoy!

Sister Hazel - All For You

Sister Hazel is by no means a "One-Hit Wonder" to me, but as far as the charts go, they unfortunately are. All For You was their first single released from their second album called ...Somewhere More Familiar in 1997, and the song peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and went to #1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts. If you ever get an opportunity to see these guys live, go see them. I've seen them many times, and they are fantastic live. Enjoy!

Faster Pussycat - House of Pain

Today's one-hit wonder comes from 80's rockers Faster Pussycat. In 1989, House of Pain made it into the top 30 peaking at #28 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, which was a pretty good feat for a hair band on the pop charts back then. It's an intense song written from a son's point of view as he deals with life without his father. Enjoy!

Devo - Whip It

Whip It was Devo's biggest hit in the US. It peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1980. The song was more popular for it's video than the actual song.

In an interview for Song Facts, vocalist Gerald Casale explains the origin of the song, "There was a feature article in Dude magazine on a guy who had been an actor and fell on hard times, he wasn't getting parts anymore. He moved with his wife to Arizona, opened a dude ranch and charged people money to come hang out at the ranch. Every day at noon in the corral, for entertainment, he'd whip his wife's clothes off with a 12-foot bullwhip.

She sewed the costumes and put them together with Velcro. The story was in the magazine about how good he was and how he never hurt her. We had such a big laugh about it, we said, 'OK, that's the basis for the video. We'll have these cowboys drinking beer and cheering Mark on as he's in the barnyard whipping this pioneer woman's clothes off while the band plays in the corral.'" Enjoy!

Lindsay Lohan - Confessions Of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father)

Lindsay Lohan's personal life and recent struggles with alcohol have been all over the news lately. A lot of people probably don't remember that she's made three albums. This song was really her biggest hit (if you can call it a hit since it peaked at #57 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts).

The video supposedly parallels her relationship with her parents, but most of the video is fictional. Who knows, she might revive her singing career at some point, but for now, her musical career is that of an almost one-hit wonder. Enjoy!

Tiffany - I Think We're Alone Now and Could've Been

Rather than call her a one-hit wonder, Tiffany is a two-hit wonder. In 1987, Tiffany released her debut self-titled album, and the album's second single I Think We're Alone Now skyrocketed Tiffany from obscurity to stardom almost overnight. I Think We're Alone Now went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts as well as the UK Singles charts. What makes her a two-hit wonder was her 3rd single from the same album called Could've Been also went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts as well as the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts.

She's released six other albums since her debut, but none have achieved the success she had with her debut. Her most notable accomplishment lately was she appeared nude in Playboy in April, 2002. She's trying to revive her music career, but for now, she'll remain a "Two-Hit Wonder". Enjoy!
